Camp Programs

Golan (Entering Grades 3-5)

Golan introduces our youngest campers to the great outdoors through camping. Each day, you'll work with experienced specialists and participate in activities such as horseback riding, arts and crafts, boating, sports and nature. You'll also have an opportunity to participate in your choice of unique activities during Chug (Club) Hour. Special cabin activities, evening programs and an overnight complete this well-rounded program. For those Golan campers staying for the full four weeks, you'll get to go a special field trip with your friends the day after the two week campers leave.

Masada (Entering Grades 6-7)

Livingston expands its boundaries to offer Masada campers more advanced levels of athletics, horseback riding, arts and crafts, ropes course, lakefront activities and much more! Counselors and campers work together for a special off camp overnight. Exciting Chugim (Clubs) and cabin activities challenge you to be more independent while building self-confidence.

Chalutzim (Entering Grades 8-9)

Chalutzim campers also participate in a wide range of activities led by experienced specialists including horseback riding on extensive trails, sports, tubing and water skiing. Campers choose their own activities during Chug Hour and cabin time, and plan many of their own evening programs including an off-camp overnight and dances. Evening activities for this group are always new and exciting and are age appropriate.

Adventures Unlimited (Entering Grade 10)

This unique program challenges you to reach goals that you previously thought to be unobtainable. All participants spend much of their time off camp exploring all the Midwest has to offer. You will hike and rappel in the Kentucky wilderness, explore caves at Red River Gorge, white water raft and mountain bike in West Virginia, hike giant sand dunes on Michigan's peninsula, and spend a Shabbat overlooking a Great Lake. When you're at camp you will horseback ride on our extensive trails, train on our high ropes and rockwall challenge courses, water ski and tube behind our wave runner and participate in memorable Shabbat activities. Space is extremely limited, and will be filled on a first come-first served basis.

During weeks five through eight, you will receive practical experience working together with a cabin group and counselors. You will also receive lifeguard training, help in the camp kitchen, assist with camper laundry, create an art project to leave behind on camp and participate in all the camp programs throughout the summer. Acceptance to this program is limited. Participants MUST commit to the entire eight week program.

*A rigorous application process may berequired for acceptance into this program.

Soosim Equestrian Program (Entering Grades 3-9)

Available to all Golan, Masada and Chalutzim campers, this specialty equestrian program allows campers to spend the entire morning (breakfast to lunch) at the horse stables. Soosim participants will be assigned their own horse and will learn all aspects of horsemanship including grooming, saddling and trail riding. Soosim participants will then rejoin their cabin groups for afternoon and evening programming.

Staff

Cabin Counselors and Specialists are selected from qualified college age individuals who possess, in addition to their skills and experience, a genuine love of children and appreciation of our Jewish heritage.

Each cabin group of approximately 12 children has two staff members living with the group at all times. Specialists are scheduled into the daily routine of a cabin group.

Specialty staff and Counselors are well supervised by a qualified team of Administrators (21 years of age and up) and they are supervised by the Assistant Camp Director and the Executive Director. Camp Livingston prides itself on a high retention rate and homegrown staff as well as a good mix of new staff to the community, meaning that each staff members is committed to Camp Livingston and the campers that attend.

We have two Registered Nurses present 24 hours a day in the Health Center, and a local Physician available to us as needed. Camp Livingston also has access to a complete health care network in the surrounding communities.

Camp Facilities

Camp Livingston's 680 wooded acres of gentle hills are home to scenic horse and hiking trails, nature and art buildings, open fields, performing arts stage, tennis and basketball courts, archery range, ropes course, private lake, the Frank and Rachel Chesley Swimming Pool, an air conditioned Beit Am (Rec Hall), and recently renovated Kosher kitchen and office facilities. Within this comprehensive facility, campers learn living and recreational skills as they participate in a rich mixture of activities and programs.

Campers live in cozy cabin villages set in the woods with adjacent bathroom and hot shower facilities. The Levinson Dining Hall brings the camp family together for delicious meals, while the outdoor chapel inspires memorable Shabbat celebrations.
