Nestled deep in the rolling, wooded hills of beautiful southeastern Indiana, the Robert Krohn Livingston Memorial Camp offers an unmatched summer experience for children and teens. Camp Livingston has always provided a safe and nurturing environment where campers gain self esteem and confidence, and form lasting friendships with their cabin and unit friends, all within a fun and exciting Jewish atmosphere.

Everything that we do at Camp Livingston is designed with fun in mind. Campers return year after year because Livingston offers activities and a feeling of kinship that are difficult to find anywhere else. Within this unique environment, campers come to know and love our Jewish heritage through the singing of Hebrew songs, experiencing cultural arts, observing Kashrut and celebrating a meaningful Shabbat as a camp community and family.

Off To Camp is a clear and easy to read book for children and parents that conveys, in a realistic way, the experiences of going "off to camp." In this book, Samantha decides to go to camp. Which one will she choose? What should she bring? She is surprised when she makes a new friend the very first day and gets a nickname!

Sending campers off to camp should be more than just packing their belongings - campers need to be mentally and emotionally prepared for the changes and experiences that going to camp brings. This book, written by nurses, introduces children and their parents to a realistic view of overnight camp.

The story, written for children ages 7-12, is told through the eyes of Samantha Edwards, a fictional first-time camper. Similar to many children, Samantha experiences some anxiety about camp life, counselors, making friends, and camp activities. According to Pravda, "Parents should also read Off to Camp to learn about overnight camp and to help prepare their children for the separation from their family if they choose to attend an overnight camp."

Pravda and Weiland wrote "Off to Camp" as their thesis while in a masters program in nursing at the University of Cincinnati. Pravda has been a camp nurse at Camp Livingston in southern Indiana for 18 years and is President of the Association of Camp Nurses http://www.campnurse.org . She is a Camp Health Specialist/National Educator, as well as a consultant, author, and national American Camping Association (ACA) presenter.

Children, parents, and camp directors who have read this book highly recommend it. They comment that the book is humorous, encouraging, and fun to read.

The book costs $8.95 plus shipping. To order call 1-800-428-2267 (ACA Bookstore) or order online at amazon.com.
